What to do in the area
We are located in Playa Mecana, Bahía Solano, in the department of Chocó, on the coast of the Colombian Pacific Ocean. We are located within the Pacific Botanical Garden Reserve, in the heart of the tropical rainforest, where the forest meets the sea.
We are part of the Chocó Biogeographic Region, one of the most biodiverse regions on the planet and recognised as one of the world's conservation hotspots. Here, primary forest, mangroves, rivers and ocean coexist in the same territory, creating a unique ecosystem of enormous natural and cultural wealth.
The Pacific Botanical Garden was created as a conservation, education and research initiative in this territory. From the outset, we have understood ecotourism as a tool to protect biodiversity, train community guides and promote more sustainable development in the region.
Mecana EcoHotel is the accommodation component within the reserve. Our tourism activity directly supports the Garden's environmental mission and contributes to the sustainability of the conservation and research projects we develop.
We live in a territory that hosts extraordinary biodiversity. During whale season, we can observe humpback whales in our waters, along with tropical birds, amphibians and primary rainforest ecosystems typical of Colombia’s Pacific.
We also coexist with Afro-descendant and Emberá Indigenous communities, whose culture, gastronomy and ancestral knowledge are an essential part of the region’s identity.
